Optimization of Numerical Method for Excavating Sequence of Large Underground Cavern

In combination with the stabilization problem of the surrounding rock in a large underground cavern project and in order to get proper excavating sequence, two planar models are founded and calculated by FLAC3D. The optimal excavating sequence is determined by the criteria of the minimum plastic area of plastic zone and minimum maximum displacement. The optimal excavating sequence gotten according to these two criteria could serve as reference in the design and construction.
