Experimental Research on Acoustic Emission Characteristics of Burst-Prone Rocks

Through the acoustic emission(AE) experiments for the failure process of the burst-prone quartzitic diorites under uniaxial compression,the characteristics of spectrum of AE signal and the relations among AE counts,energy,AE rate,energy rate,strain and time are analyzed in detail.The results show that the rock deformation proceeds in three stages: consolidation stage,elastic stage and non-elastic stage.During the early stage of consolidation stage and elastic stage,AE counts and energy increase linearly with the increase of stress.Before the stress is near the peak,the stress experiences a drop-stabilization-raise stage,and the rate of AE energy unconventionally increase and stop at the failure of rock.AE sequence expresses a pre-main-after shock model.Different stress level have different characteristic of spectrum.As the stress is increasing,AE spectrum develops from low frequency to high frequency and the sub-main frequency appears.AE counts and energy concentrate on the high frequency part.The study is in some degree useful to rock-bursting prediction of this kind of rock.
