Research Overview of the Progressive Failure Mechanism for Jointed Rock Mass

Deformation and failure in rock mass is the core problem in rock engineering.Study on the failure process of rock mass is of great directive significance to the reasonable design,safe construction and effective mainte- nance in rock engineering.In this paper,based on a combined analysis of the progressive failure characteristics and the failure pattern of rock mass,the current status of research on the progressive failure mechanism for jointed rock mass is described through several aspects,such as fracture mechanics method,damage mechanics methodt numerical simulation,test and so on.Finally,some opinions about the main problems in the present research are put forward.
