Finite Element Analysis on Dynamic Coefficient for Slopes Subjected to Earthquake Load

Earthquake has great effect on the stability of slopes,the seismic wave will be amplified in the slope and the dynamic coefficient particularly susceptible to the slope shape.In this paper,FEM is used to carry out dynamic analysis for slopes,the damping matrix is got based on the natural frequency and damping ratio of the material,generalized consistent boundary condition is set and the EI-centro earthquake records was input to the base boundary as seismic acceleration.The result of the dynamic analysis shows that with the increase of the slope gradient the dynamic coefficient increases too.The coefficient is variable in the slope,this means that the maximum value is at the crest and minimum value at the toe.It is rational if we defined the dynamic coefficient at the gravity center of the wedge over the sliding plane as the slope dynamic coefficient,and for relatively steep slopes in engineering the value is 1.6 to 1.8.
