Study on Meso-structure Changes of Remolded Expansive Soils During Wetting-drying Cycles

In order to study the influence of moisture to the evolution of expansive soil's crack,wetting-drying cycle tests for remolded expansive soil were carried out under unrestricted condition,and samples were scanned with Computer tomography to observe the production and closure of the crack.The research results indicate that both wetting and drying can induce the production and closure of the cracks under unrestricted condition.During wetting process small cracks would be closed,but big cracks would be developed.During drying process small cracks would be extended and big cracks would be developed.Based on CT meso-test data,the damage variable was defined in this thesis,and an equation for damage evolution during wetting-drying cycles was proposed.
