Experimental Study on Strength Character of Unsaturated Soils of Zhengkai Underpass Project

Based on osmotic method and vapor phase technique,the soil-water characteristic curves of unsaturated soils-the sandy powder soil and the silty clay which produced by dewatering construction of Zhengkai underpass project were obtained,the characteristic curves showed that the desorption process of both unsaturated soils showed clearly in step-phase.The strength character of both unsaturated soils were also studied according to characteristic curves,the results as follows were acquired: with low suction,the strength for both unsaturated soils were directly proportional to suction and the shear coefficient φb of the sandy powder soil and the silty clay were about 8.5° and 4.9°.The experimental study of strength character of Zhengkai project provided important dates and theoretical basis for settlement control and excavation face stability analysis.
