Study on Shear Behavior of Undisturbed Expansive Rock by Direct Shear Test

Experimental results of expansive rock by new developed direct shear test apparatus in particular were introduced,its shear behaviors of undisturbed sample were introduced.The results indicated significant difference of shear behavior between undisturbed expansive rock and remolded sample.The shear plane of the former shows concave-convex fluctuation,and this equal to increasing effective shear area.And these would increase discretization of test results.Besides,the results show that the structure of undisturbed expansive rock plays important roles in shear strength.So,it is very difficult to obtain accurate shear strength index from indoor experiment of remolded sample,and the undisturbed sample test or in-situ test should be applied in engineering.
