EFFECTS OF POLYSACCHARIDES FROM SPIRULINA PLATENSIS ON THE GROWTH OF Hela CELLS: AN IN VITRO STUDY

DING Shouyi, YANG Ying \ Department of Microbiology, Qingdao University Medical College, Qingdao 266021
Objective\ To study the effects of polysaccharide from Spirulina platensis (PSP) on the growth of Hela cells in vitro. \ Methods\ MTT assay was applied to evaluate the antitumor activity of PSP on Hela cells and its influence on the cell morphological changes was observed. \ Results\ With the increase of PSP concentration , the inhibition rate on Hela cells increased and the survival rate declined. Evident morphological changes of Hela cells, exposed to PSP for 24-48 hours, were seen microscopically. \ Conclusion\ PSP can inhibit the proliferation of Hela cells.
