RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EXPRESSION OF VEGF AND MMP_2 AND CLINICAL PATHOLOGY OF LUNG CARCINOMA

Objective To study the relationship between the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and matrix metalloproteinase 2(MMP 2) and clinical pathology of primary lung carcinoma. Methods PowerVision TM -PV9000 method was applied to detect the expressions of VEGF and MMP 2 in 75 cases of primary lung carcinoma. Results The positive rates of VEGF and MMP 2 were 61.33% and 65.33%, respectively. The expression intensity of both VEGF and MMP 2 increased with histological grades (H c=20.912, 10.693, q=4.023-13.664, P0.01), and was both significantly higher in patients with lymph node metastasis than in those without (H c=2.990,2.450, P0.05). The intensity was also both obviously significant among different survival-time groups (H c=16.943, 10.650, q=3.847-6.817, P0.01). VEGF and MMP 2 were found of no relationship with age, gender, tumor size, or histological type. An obviously positive linear correlation was found between expression of VEGF and MMP 2 (r=0.457, P0.001). Conclusion The expression of VEGF and MMP 2 was related to the histopathological grading, lymph node metastasis, and postoperative survival. Detection of the expression of VEGF and MMP 2 may serve as an important parameter in evaluating lymph node metastasis and prognosis of primary lung carcinoma.
