The Basic Features of Xinglong Ancient Ice Cap

Xinglong ancient ice cap is one of three ancient ice caps of the Hengduan Mountains. It neighbours with the Daocheng ancient ice cap in the south. Both ice caps to Saluli Mountain. It's area is 2000 km2. There are many glacial lakes of higher elevation and morain which are the marks to recognize the ancient ice cap. This kind of ice cap is a complex composed of big flattopped glaciers and valley glaciers, with the glacial geomorphological type combined the flattopped type with valley one, including glacial erosion lakes, glacial erosion hill, glacial valley, drumlin and lateral moraine, etc. especially, the drumlin is a rare phenomenon in the valley glaciers of China. The evolution of Xinglong ancient ice cap is divided into three glacial epoches. The moraine of the earlist glacial epoch belongs to Chapu epoch, which is the laregest one in the middle pleistocene. The moraine of Xieweke valley represents the early stage of the late pleistocene. The new moraine represents the later stage of the later pleistocene.
