Impact Test on frozen Silt with Different Impulse and Water Content

Yu Qihao, Zhu Yuanlin, He Ping and Zhang Jianming(State Key Laboratory of Frozen Soil Engineering, LIGG, CAS, 730000)  
A series of notched Charpy bar impact tests were conducted on remolded Lanzhou silt on traditional impacting instrument, with different temperature, impulse and water content. The results show that the impact toughness of frozen silt increases in nonlinear with the increase of pendulum impulse. The influence of temperature on impact toughness increases with increase of impulse, and is quite smaller than the influence of impulse in the range of test temperature. Along with growth of water content, impact toughness constantly increases until it reach its peak 23.3%. Then it gradually decreases and tends to become the impact toughness of pure ice 1 969 J / m2. Through the observation and analysis on braked surface of samples, it was found that the smooth degree of the bracken surface increases with increase of water content, and clearly exists two regions near liquid limit. The impulse no effects to the smooth degree of bracken surface. All this work was continue study to the impact test on frozen soil.
