Monitoring Glacier Volume Change Based on Multi-Source DEM and Multi-Temporal Remote Sensing Images——a Case Study in the Mount Naimona'nyi Region on the Tibetan Plateau

For the significance of glaciers in global hydro cycle and energy balance,glacier change has become a hot subject in global change studies.The development of remote sensing can help to acquire a large amount of land cover information while the advent of high precise DEM data makes it possible to get three-dimensional information of land objects.Based on current glacier change monitoring methods,this paper proposes a way to combine multisource DEM data and multi temporal remote sensing data to estimate glacier volume change.The Mount Naimona'nyi region on the Tibetan Plateau is taken as a study case.Firstly all data are transformed into UTM projection and WGS-84 datum.Especially SRTM-DEM is corrected from EGM-96 elevation system to 1985-Huanghai elevation system,the same as that of topographic map DEM.Then Glacier extent is recognized through MSS/TM remote sensing data,and glacier thickness change is extracted through topographic DEM and SRTM-DEM.Afterwards,glacier volume change is calculated and errors resulted from glacier extent recognition,multi-temporal remote sensing data and multi-source DEM data are controlled and analyzed well.The result is fine,thus providing scientific support to model glacier response to global change pattern and to predict regional water resources.
