Spatial-Temporal Distribution of Water Vapor Transportation over Tarim Basin during 1948-2009

Using 1948-2009 U.S.NCEP/NCAR monthly mean reanalysis data(2.5°×2.5°),the horizontal and vertical atmospheric water vapor input,output,net balance and their changing trends over the Tarim basin at different levels were analyed in detail.The results show that: 1) The middle and lower troposphere and the whole troposphere over the Tarim basin are moisture sinks in the horizontal direction,more in the latitude direction and less in the longitude direction,and the lower troposphere is a water vapor source and the upper troposphere is a water vapor moisture sink in the vertical direction;2) Water vapor transportation has obvious seasonal variations in the whole troposphere and the middle and lower troposphere in both horizontal and vertical directions,with input mainly in summer and output mainly in winter;3)The horizontal component,latitude component,longitude component and vertical component in the middle and lower troposphere and the whole troposphere all show an consistent annual variation with an unobvious decadal variation in latitude direction,but very obvious decadal variation has appeared in the horizontal component,meridian component and the vertical component since the later 1970′s;4) The horizontal and meridional components of net input of water vapor showed a decreasing trend,while the latitude and vertical component showed an increasing trend during the period of 1978 to 2003,when global warming was the most remarkable.It is believed that global warming accelerates the water cycle,but changes the thermal difference among different latitudes,which lead to an acceleration of the local water cycle in the Tarim basin and reduce the moisture transportation along the meridian direction.
