STRUCTURE OF PLASMA SPRAYED Al_2O_3 CERAMIC COATING

The phase structure and phase composition in the plasma sprayed Al 2O 3 ceramic coatings have been investigated using X ray diffraction and scanning electronic microscope.Both the metal bond coat and the ceramic coat display a laminar structure.The ceramic coat shows less density and there exists some cracks frequently,whereas the bond coat denser and no cracks.The metastable γ Al 2O 3 exists as the main phase along with an amount of stable phase α Al 2O 3.Furthermore,it is found that the coating design has effect on the microhardness in some degree.
