STUDY ON DEVELOPMENT TREND OF APDS SABOT MATERIAL

Along with the variation in projectile penetrator material from steel to high density tungsten , or DU alloy , and penetrator from full-calibre to sub-calibre, the projectile has a big leap in penetration power. When the penetrative capacity is restricted by the length to diameter ratio of penetrator and the density of penetrator material, the penetrative performance will be a big leap by developing new projectile sabot materials to reducing the parasitic mass of the projectile. The development and application of several new sabot materials are presented in the paper.
