Mechanical properties of 97% tungsten alloy

MA Hong-lei, HU Geng-kai, LI Shu-kui (Dept. of Applied Mechanics,Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing 100081,China)  
The 97% tungsten alloy fabricated by P/M technique is examined experimentally in this paper, the dynamic compression test is realized by Hopkinson bar and the damage mechanisms are examined by tension test from a Scanning Electronic Microscope. It is found that the damage mechanism of this alloy in tension is mainly the crack initiation and propagation inside of the tungsten particles, the material is brittle in tension, it however has a very good ductility in compression.
