Contribution of film boiling to axial hardness of hardened workpiece

On the basis of heat transfer theory, this paper analyzes heat transfer process in film boiling stage when axial workpiece is quenched vertically and distribution of steam film thickness as well as corresponding variation of heat - transfer coefficient. The reasons why surface of workpiece is moistened from bottom to top in quenching and axial hardness gradient is generated after quenching are also given in this paper.
