Fracture failure analysis of left steering knuckle arm

YUAN Tao,DUAN Li-ping,CHEN Yun(Ningbo Branch of China Academy of Ordnance Science,Ningbo 315103,China)  
Left steering knuckle arm made of 40Cr steel was used after being quenched and high temperature tempered,but early failure occurred in service.The parts were analyzed by metallographic examination.The results show that the reasons of failure are forging flaws on the surface and the microstructure of the material also doesn't meet the service conditions.
