Study on new type of tungsten alloy for penetrator

A new type of tungsten alloy that used in penetrator by powder metallurgy routes was designed and studied in this paper.The main matrix was some kinds of steel alloy powder.Microstructure was investigated and mechanical properties were tested.The result shows that the composite reaches the basic mechanical properties which are required by penetrator with tensile strength of 790 MPa and elongation of 9%.Apparent distortion bands like adiabatic shear band are observed in the direction of the maximum shear stress under the strain of about 0.32 and strain rate of about 3 600 s-1.
