Effect of yttrium on microstructure and mechanical properties of AZ91D magnesium alloy

The effects of yttrium on the microstructure and mechanical properties of AZ91D magnesium alloy were studied in this paper.The experimental results showed that AZ91D magnesium alloy structure was mainly composed of α-Mg matrix,β(Mg17Al12) phase,Al2Y phase and Al6Mn6Y phase when yttrium was added.The mechanical properties of AZ91D magnesium alloy could be obviously improved by the compound purification treatment. The average tensile strength was increased from 101.88 MPa to 141.91 MPa,but the elongation was indistinctively increased.
