Experimental study on the bending strength of SiC_p/Al composite

SiC particles reinforced aluminum-based (SiCP/Al) composite was fabricated by powder metallurgy. Then the influence of size and content of SiC particle on the bending strength of SiCP/Al composite was studied by experiments. The results showed that when the size of SiC particle was unchanged, there was a nonlinear decline variation in the bending strength of SiCP/Al composite with the volume fraction of SiC particle increasing;the bending strength of SiCP/Al composite with low content of SiC particle was always higher than that with high content of SiC particle. No matter what fabricating methods were adopted, the bending strength of SiCP/Al composite reached its maximum when the volume content of SiC was 10%.
