EFFECTS OF RE AND Ag ON MICROSTRUCTURES AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF Mg-Li ALLOY

The result of the orthogonal experiments indicates that Ag has the greatest effect on the strength of Mg-7Li-14Zn alloy, and the optimium quantities of additives are 1.6%Ag, 1.1%~1.3%Nd, 0.4%~0.6%La, 0.8%~1.0%Ce(wt), respectively. In this composition(ρ=1.694g/cm 3), the mechanical properties of the alloy are σ b= 405.1MPa, σ 0.2 =201.1MPa, δ=8.98%, after 370℃×1hr solid solution, water quenching, and 20hrs aging at 38℃. When Ag, Nd, La and Ce are added to the ternary alloy, Mg 3Ag, Mg 17 La 2, Mg 17 Ce 2 and Mg 3Ce phases are formed respectively, and Nd dissolves in α phase resulting in solid solution strengthening.
