SELF-SUSTAINING COMBUSTION REACTION INDUCED BY HIGH ENERGY BALL MILLING

The influence of various factors on self-sustaining combustion reaction induced by high energy ball milling is reviewed. It is argued that reaction thermodynamics and microstructure are equally important in determining whether a combustion reaction occurs or not, and both are controlled by milling parameters. The preliminary qualitative requirements for a combustion reaction to happen are adduced. The aim is to point out the aspects to be considered for further study on this type of reaction and effective application of this technique of in-situ nanocomposites preparation.
