Blue Organic Light Emitting Diode with a Blocking Layer

A blue organic light emitting diode with TPBi as a blocking layer has been prepared. The EL spectrum peak is at 450 nm, indicating that the carrier recombination is confined in the NPB by TPBi layer and light emission originates from NPB. The maximum luminance and luminous efficiency are 3 700 cd/m 2 and 0.78 lm/W, respectively. The CIE coordinates of this diode are x =0.110, y =0.085, showing a good purity for blue OEL display. Luminance and durability characteristics are discussed based on the energy level diagram.
