Design of Long-period Fiber Grating-based Gain Equalizer

A filter is designed to flatten the gain of an erbium doped fiber amplifier by means of analyzing and calculating the coupling between fibers guided and cladding modes caused by long period fiber gratings using coupled mode theory.The filter consists of three long period fiber gratings.For a typical gain spectrum of erbium doped fiber amplifers,this filter realizes ≤0.3 dB gain variation over a bandwidth of 33 nm.It is shown that the selected datum gain can be retained and there is only a little reduction of the corresponding bandwidth.
