Cross-phase Modulation in Optical Fibers and Its Applications

LIU Hong-zhan, YUAN Ming-hui, CAO Wen-hua (Institute of Information Science, Wuyi University, Jiangmen 529020, CHN)  
Cross-phase modulation in single-mode optical fibers is an important nonlinear effect. This paper reviews in detail its principles and applications. Some difficulties in applications are pointed out and the detrimental effect of cross-phase modulation on system performance is also discussed.
