Study on Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer with Ultra-magnetostrictive Tunable FBG

A novel multichannelswitching active add/drop multiplexer (OADM) is fabricated consisting of a pair of circulators and fiber Bragg gratings (FBG). An efficient ultramagnetostrictive material (GMM) is used to produce significant Bragg wavelength shifts in FBGs. Programmable current is applied to control strain and shift of the Bragg wavelength of the FBGs. The channel insertion loss of this OADM is less than 2.0dB, with the isolation of add/drop ports of more than 30dB. This OADM has a simple structure with which the channel wavelength reuse can be realized easily and can make DWDM network more flexible. 
