Mode-locked Pulse Compression by SOA Ring Cavity and NOLM

A designed method for the compression of mode-locked pulse train based on the semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) ring cavity and nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) is introduced. Numerical simulations show that, for incident mode-locked pulses with peak power of 1mW and pulse width of 20ps, the pulse compression factor can exceed 117, the FWHM of output pulse is less than 150fs, and the pulse is nearly free pedestal at peak power up to 6W.
