Effective Multi-section Model for Semiconductor Optical Amplifier and Applications in Optical Signal Processing

The theory of multi-section model for semiconductor optical amplifier(SOA) is described.Three multi-section models are presented and applied to the simulation of wavelength conversion based on cross-gain-modulation in SOA.By analyzing the difference between the simulated and experimental results,it is emphasized that the amplified spontaneous emission(ASE) has important effects on the gain compression and pulseshaping during the all-optical signal processing based on SOAs.
