Using filter to eliminate checkerboard in topology optimization

YANG Gui-yu,SUN Bao-yuan,LI Zhen(School of Mechanical Engineering,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China)  
Checkerboard in topology optimization of the continuum and the reason for the formation are introduced. Several methods to avoid this pattern are discussed. Filter method is applied to the structural topology optimization and the feasibility and efficiency of this method are testified through examples of topology optimization of stiff structures and compliant mechanisms.
