Microwave Synthesis and Photocatalytic Activity of Bi_2O_3/TiO_2 Nanocomposite

Bismuth doped TiO2 nanocomposite was prepared by bismuth nitrate and titanium sulfate as materials by hydroiysis synthesis method under microwave irradiation. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron micrograph (TEM). The results show that the as-prepared Bi3+-doped TiO2 nanocomposite of inventory molar ratio of 1∶10 calcined at 500 ℃ is anatase with crystalline diameter of 6-10 nm. The photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared Bi3+-doped TiO2 nanocomposite by using degradation of methyl orange was researched. The result indicates that the as-prepared Bi3+-doped TiO2 nanocomposite is a good photo-catalyst. The effects of photo-catalytic activities of the composite with different ratios of qualities of inventory molar ratio, calcined at different temperature, different amount of nanocomposite were investigated . When the concentration of catalyst loading is 1 g/L, the degradation rate of TiO2 reaches 97% for 2 mg/L concentration of methyl orange under ultraviolet irradiation after 30 min. The photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange meets first order kinetics equation.
