A Preliminary Study on Antiviral Activities of Polysaccharides from Seven Kinds of Algae Collected from the South China Sea in vitro

The antiviral activities of polysaccharides from seven kinds of algae collected from the South China Sea against herpes simplex virus type 1(HSV-1) and coxsackievirus(CoxB_3) in vitro were reported in this paper.The results indicated that these polysaccharides all possessed good antiviral effects.The polysaccharides from Ulva pertusa Kjellm and Grateloupia filicina(L.) C.Ag inhibited HSV-1 at the same IC_(50) values of 3.90μg/mL,and SI values of 363 and 296.4 respectively.The polysaccharides from Ulva pertusa Kjellm and Gelidium divaricatum Martens inhibited CoxB_3 at the IC_(50) values of 1.95μg/mL and 7.81μg/mL,and SI values of 1025.6 and 212 respectively.The physicochemical experiments showed that these seven polysaccharides all contained sulfate groups,the sulfate groups and fucose composition in the polysaccharides were closely related to their antiviral action.
