Scientificness and Humanisticness in Political Studies

Tang Shiqi;School of International Studies,Peking University;
The knowledge about unchangeability and universality,or in other words,the knowledge about scientificness has always occupied a dominant position in Western epistemology,while the knowledge about changeability and individuality have long been marginalized. Starting with Aristotle's differentiation of these two kinds of knowledge, the present thesis analyzes their different characteristics, and categorizes the knowledge about changeability and individuality as being humanistic while emphasizing its indispensability in human affairs on the basis of a summarization of traditional Chinese learning. The author also demonstrates that politics is a learning with both scientific and humanistic characters,which will be further developed if more attention is paid to its humanistic side.
