The Right of Explication:Comparative Poetics in Contemporary Literary Study

Chen Yuehong
The author of tbis essay points out tliat comparative poetics is swiftly becomingthe main trend of development in contemporary literary theories. In its effort of deepening the“China-West Dialogue”,present study of comparative poetics should paymore attention to “ancient-modern dialogue” in order to form the situations of “four-sided conference.” The author holds that the establishment of the right principle fordialogue and of the methodological basis and the concurrence of the interpretative em-phasis of Western poetics and the interpretive tradition of Chinese poetics are of gr-eater practical significance than the seeking of universal rules and the promise ofidentification of values.
