WORM PARASITES FROM TAIHU FISHES, MONOGENEA Ⅳ. DACTYLOGYRUS OF CHINESE WHITE FISH: WITH DESCRIPTION OF FOUR NEW SPECIES AND A DISCUSSION ON THEIR PHYLOGENETIC SIGNIFICANCE

Among twenty species of the genus Dactylogyrus reported to be parasitic on Culter erythropterus, Erythroculter ilishaeformis, E. mongolkus, and E. dabryi from Taihu, four are considered as new to science. They are characterized as follows.Dactylogyrus tongtinensis sp. nov.Body 0.42-0.59mm long and 0.52-0.91 mm wide. Marginal booklets, 0.012-C.027 mm long, the first pair being the longest and the 7th the shortest. Central large hooks of D. fdcatus type with a short outer root and a characteristic tuberculum on the base of the point; total length 0.038-0.040mm, basal portion 0.032-0.033 mm, outer root about 0.001mm, inner root 0.017-0.020mm, point 0.017-0.020 mm. Connective plate an inverted triangular piece with two short arms along the front margin, being 0.013 × 0.020-0.050 mm. Supplementary plate brace-like, 0.009 × 0.020-0.030 mm.Male genitalia 0.040-0.073 mm long, with a simple tube of 0.035-0.063 mm long and 0.002-0.003 mm in diameter. Supporting apparatus appears as the vamp of the shoe under which the copulatory tube passes thru.Host: Erythroculter mongolkus (Basil.)Location: Gill slits.Distribution: Taihu.Incidence and intensity of infection: 1-5 specimens per piece of gill slits from 9 out of 17 fish specimens examined.Type and Paratype specimens: Deposited in the Biology Department, Huatung Pedagogical University and in the author's collection.This worm is distinguished from the other species of the genus by its characteristic central large hooks, shape of the connective plate and the structure of the male geni-talia.Dactylogyrut parapterocletdui sp. nov.Body 0.35-0.38mm long and 0.08-0.09mm wide. Marginal booklets 0.017-0.023mm long, with the 3rd pair the longest, the 6th and 7th the shortest. Central large hooks similar to those of Onckodeidus acer Muller, 1936, with a characteristic tubercle on the base of the point; total length 0.040-0.043 mm, basal portion 0.026-0.030mm, outer root 0.001-0.003 mm, inner root 0.017-0.020mm, point 0.020mm. Connective plate appears somewhat like an inverted "W", being 0.005-0.007×0.030-0.033mm. The supplementary plate being Y-shaped.Copulatory tube is simple, being 0.027-0.029 mm in length and about 0.005mm in its basal diameter and 0.001-0.002 mm in diameter for the rest part. Supporting piece appears as a leaf-blade and with a short arm on its margin, between the space thus formed by the arm and the margin the copulatory tube penetrates.Host: Cutter erythroptems Basil.Location: Gill slits.Distribution: Taihu.Incidence and intensity of infection: 1 specimen each from 4 out of 11 fishes examined.Type and Paratype specimens: Deposited in the Biology Department, Huatung Pedagogical University and in the author's collection.This worm is rather similar to D. pterodeidus Gussev, 1955, but it differs from the latter by the shape of the supporting apparatus and the size of the cuticular structures.Dactylogyras helictocirras sp. nov.Body 0.29× 0.065mm, with distinct transverse striations along the whole body length. Pharynx 0.016 × 0.013mm. Marginal booklets, being 0.023-0.026 mm lopg with the 2nd the longest and the 7th the shortest. Central large hooks of D. wunderi type; total length 0.040mm, basal portion 0.023mm, outer root 0.001mm, inner root 0.017mm, point 0.008mm. Connective'plate simple, 0.003×0.023mm. Supplementary piece being also a simple piece, 0.002 × 0.018mm.Copulatory tube is hook-like with an enlarged basal portion and its diameter is about 0.001mm. The base of the supporting apparatus appears as an inverted cup; it continues as a solid tube and after forming several spirals around the tube ends as a sword-like piece.Host: Culler erythropterus Basil.Location: Gill slits.Distribution: Taihu.Incidence and intensity of infection: Only a single specimen was found from 11 fishes.Type specimen: Deposited in the Biology Department, Huatung Pedagogical University.This specimen is distinguished from the other species of the genus by its transverse striations of the body surface and the structure of the male genitalia.
