The material dealt with in the report was collected from eight cities in Eastern China, i.e., Shanghai, Hangchow, Nanking, Yanchow, Penpu, Hofei, Tsinan and Tsing-tao, during 1956-1962. Four species of Trematoda, 5 species of Cestoda, 67 species of Nematoda and 1 Acanthocephala were found. The results indicate that the percentage of infection as observed is fairly high for Ascarops strongylina, Oesophagostomum longicaudum, Thelazia kansuensis, Haemonchus contortus, Habronema muscae, Trichonema labratum, T. labiatum, T. aegyptiacum, Cylicocydus nassatum, Delafondia vulgaris, Trio-dontophorus hsiungi, and these parasites are widespread in Eastern China.Among the 67 species of nematodes, Thelazia (T.) ferulata is new to science.Thelazia (Thelaziella) ferulata, sp. nov.Diagnosis: Body filiform, attenuated toward both ends, whitish when living. Cuticle with coarse and prominent transverse striations. The buccal capsule small and quadrate in shape.Male: Body 13.612-14.609 mm in length and 0.383-0.467 mm in the greatest diameter. Oesophagus cylindrical in shape, 0.627-0.697 mm in length and 0.055-0.069 mm in the greatest diameter. Cervical papillae asymmetrical, 0,664-0.747 and 0.713-0.780 ram respectively to the anterior end. Nerve ring situated at the posterior 1/3 of the oesophagus, 0.557-0.578 mm to the anterior end. Tail spirally coiled. Cloacal aperture slightly protruded, situated at 0.066-0.083 mm from the tail end. Two spicules short and rod-shaped, the right broader, about 0.108-0.132 mm in length and 0.019-0.023 mm in the greatest diameter; the left slender, about 0.118-0.141 mm in length and 0.013-0.016 mm in the greatest diameter. Caudal papillae 12 pairs, preanal papillae 10 pairs and postanal papillae 2 pairs.Discussion: 1. The new species is different from Thelazia (T.) hsui in the size and shape of the spicules. In Thelazia. (T.) hsiii the spicules are quite slender, measuring 0.670 mm in the left and 0.713 mm in the right, while in the new species they are short and rod-shaped, measuring 0.108-0.132mm in the left, and 0.118-0.141mm in the right, about 1/6 the length of that of the preceeding species.2. The spicules in the new species closely resemble those of Thelazia (Thelaziella) ersckowi, T. (T.) dentifera, T. (T.) lacrymalis and T. (T.) skrjabini in shape, but are different in detailed structure, as shown in the following table:Host: Eos taurus L Location: Beneath the eyelid.Locality: Hofei, Anhwei Province; Tsinan, Shangtung Province. Type specimens: Holotype , paratype , deposited in the Institute of Zoology. Academia Sinica, Peking, China.
