Impact of Garbage Landfill Leachate on Nutrient Pollution of Tidal Flat Sediments

The impact of landfill leachate on nutrient pollution load of tidal flat sediments was studied,taking the tideland near the Laogang garbage landfill in Shanghai city as an example.The results showed that the content of nitrogen and phosphorus in the superficial sediment of Laogang tideland increased greatly due to the discharge of landfill leachate.In the direction that was perpendicular to the coastal,the content of nitrogen and phosphorus in the superficial sediment decreased with the increase of the distance to the landfill leachate outfalls.The content of nitrogen and phosphorus in the tidal flat sediments at the north and south transects had significant difference.The content of total inorganic nitrogen and the total inorganic phosphorus in the tidal flat sediments at the north transect was obviously much higher than that at the south transect.It was probably due to the different length of the garbage burying time at north and south transect.Besides,the content of nitrogen and phosphorus in the core sediments also show some regular change.The content of ammonia in the core sediments increased with the depth,while tie content of total phosphorus in the core sediments decreased with the depth.
