Phosphate Removal by Adsorption onto CTMAB Organobentonite

Cetyl trimethylammonium bromide modified bentonite was prepared,characterized,and its adsorption properties for phosphate were evaluated in batch experiments.The effects of adsorbent dosage,adsorption time and solution pH on the phosphate were also conducted.The results showed that the ability of phosphate adsorption by CTMAB bentonite was far more than that of Na-bentonite and raw bentonite.The process of phosphate adsorption was rapid and reached equilibrium within 60 min.The Freundlich model and the Langmuir model were both described the adsorption isotherm data well.These results indicated that the surfactant modified bentonites were potential adsorbents for the phosphate removal from water.
