On the 12th Century Renaissance in Western Europe

Liu Jianjun (Research Center for History of World Civilization, Changchun 130024, China)
The 12th century renaissance in Western Europe was a revival movement of Christian culture which took place after Carolus renaissance. Different from Carolus renaissance, which aimed to construct the foundation of Christian culture for mediaeval system, the 12th century renaissance aimed to establish an integral system of Christian culture for strenghtening mediaeval system and the development of it. The 12th century renaissance in Western Europe gave rise to prosperity of Christian culture. As a result, a lot of scholars and academic schools of Christian culture emerged at that time. So we can say that Carolus renaissance and the 12th century renaissance, especially the later, played a very important role in the development of European culture in the process of transfering from classical culture of ancient Greece and Rome into the 14th century renaissance.
