Response and Resistance of Four Turfgrasses of Zoysia Willd. to Drought Stress

Relative water content,plasma-membrane permeability and proline content were measured in the leaves of four turfgrasses of Zoysia Willd.Using stopping water supply as treatment and watering normally as control in greenhouse.The results showed that under water stress condition the relative water content decreased,the plasma membrane permeability enhanced,and the proline accumulated acutely in their leaves.The relative water content,plasmamembrane permeability and proline content were significantly different between four turfgrasses under severe soil drought stress.The relative water content was significantly negatively related to plasma-membrane permeability,and plasmamembrane permeability was significantly or very significantly positively related to proline content for four species.According to analysis of physiological characters and natural performance,the ranks of drought resistance of four turfgrasses were Zoysia japonica cv.Lanyin No.3 Zoysia tenuifolia Willd.ex Trin Zoysia matrella(Linn)Merr Zoysia japonica steud.
