Effects of Spermine on Reactive Oxygen Species Metablism in the Roots of Cucumber Seedlings under NaCl Stress

The experiment was conducted to study the effects of spermine on reactive oxygen species(ROS)metablism in the roots of "Jingchun2"(salt sensitive)cucumber seedlings under NaCl stress in hydroponics.The results showed that:The activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD),peroxidase(POD)and catalase(CAT)was stimulated,O2-·producing rate and H2O2 content were increased in the roots of cucumber seedlings under NaCl stress.Exogenous spermine application further enhanced the activities of SOD,POD and CAT,and decreased O2-· producing rate and H2O2 content.Thus it can be seen,exogenous spermine application decreased the levels of ROS by increasing the activities of antioxidant enzymes,spermine involved in the process of ROS metabolism and played an important role in alleviating the injury of cucumber seedlings under NaCl stress.
