Deformation-induced cementite dissolution under thermal activation

Based on literature review,the annealing behavior of severely deformed pearlitic steel and the hot-deformation behavior of pearlitic steel are discussed,and a clearer physical picture of deformation-induced cementite dissolution under thermal activation is presented. The practical importance of the phenomena of deformation-induced cementite dissolution is also discussed. Solution strengthening caused by deformation-induced cementite dissolution can lead to a further increase in the strength of the deformed pearlitic steel,and the high strength can be retained up to 200 ℃ or even higher temperature. Under the condition of hot working,due to interaction between the deformation-induced cementite dissolution and dynamic recovery of Fe matrix,the pearlitic steel can be transformed into a submicro or nano scale ultra-fine duplex α / θ structure,which is of great practical significance for developing a new steel with both high strength and high toughness( or superplasticity).
