Experimental Study on the Output Characteristics of Giant Magnetostrictive Actuator

Structure of a giant magnetostrictive actuator and the design of its magnetic circuit were investigated in this paper, and an actuator was developed applying domestic magnetostrictive materials in the design. The actuator's output characteristics in the transient and stable states were measured. The actuator's displacement and force output can reach 50μm and 600N respectively when the input current was 4A. Based on the tests, it can be concluded that the actuator has perfect output capability in displacement and force and can be used in low-frequency vibration control system of precision devices.
