Research and Comparison on the Application of Hilbert-Huang Transform and Wavelet Transform to Fault Feature Extraction

The applications of the Hilbert-Huang transform(HHT) and wavelet transform(WT) to fault feature extraction were studied.Taking the three-phase short fault in power system for example,the fault features were extracted by HHT and WT of fault voltage signals with and without aberration.The simulated results by HHT were compared with those by WT and the shortcomings of WT were analyzed.It is concluded that HHT is more valid than WT in the fault feature extraction,especially under the condition that the fault signal has the envelop variety but its frequency hardly changes.
