The Structural Feature of the Jinniushan Area and the Geological Genesis of the Caves of the Anthropological Ruins

The study of the geological structural feature and the genesis of the caves in development of the ruin of the ancient anthropological civilization in Jinniushan area is of great importance in excavation. In this area the formation, distribution and shape of the caves A and C are controlled by the NW trending faulting and its secondary joint-fracture structures and the steep occurrence of the bedding, which played important role in dissolution of the carbonate rocks by underground water.The three sets of fracture in E-W, NE and NW trending in this area may be subdivided into two main stages of generation. The early one is a compressional structural zone of E-W tread with a set of conjugate shear joints in NE and NW directions developed in an identical S-N compressional stress field in early Sinian Subeon. In the late Jurassic in age of the later stage the preexisted E-W compressional zone was transformed into a dextral shear-compressional zone and the preexisted NW dextral shear-compressional zone into sinistral shear-tensional structures. Those transformations of the structural feature in the geological development represents the superposition of structures of different ages in the Jinniushan area.
