Effect of Environmental Condition on the Performance of Proton Exchange Mem-brane Fuel Cell

The performance of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) stack was investigated at different ambient temperatures and humidities. The results showed that the relative humidity and the temperature of the surrounding air significantly affected the performance of the PEMFC stack, and the max output power of the PEMFC stack increased sharply with the air humidity rising. While the relative humidity was less than 30%, or the ambient temperature dropped below 10℃, the performance of the PEMFC stack deteriorated.
