COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE THIRD MOLAR BETWEEN NEOLITHIC AND MODERN POPULATION

Objective:To compare the morphology and impaction types of third molar between Neolithic and Modern populations.Methods:Eighty single third molars and 235 jaws were studied.The morphology and impaction types of third molars were analyzed in Neolithic populations.Results:There was significant difference in size of tooth roots and crowns between Neolithic and Modern populations.The root of the third molar in Neolithic pepulation was longer than that in Modern populations,but the crown was shorter in Nedithic population than in Modern populaton.Other measuremeats such as the width and thickness of crown and neck were close.The third molar in Neolithic population could appear in the types of mesioangular impaction,horizontal impaction,impaction of low position.Conclusion:The size of third molar roots in Neolithic population is greater than in Modern population,and the impaction types in both population are same.
