Changes of the arch width and overjet of the posterior teeth from the middle-aged to the elderly person

Objective To investigate the overjet changes of the posterior teeth of the middle-aged to the elderly person over ten years.Methods Full-mouth study models were taken ten years ago and at present from twenty middle-aged to the elderly people.The reference surface and landmarks for measurements were identified on the models by the model surveyor.The distances between the reference points were measured.Results The arch widths of the mandibular posterior teeth were significantly decreased.The arch widths of the maxillary first premolar,second premolar and first molar were slightly decreased.The arch widths of the maxillary second molars were significantly increased.Conclusion The overjets of the posterior teeth increased over the ten years.
