The Preservation, Management and Administration of Local Beijing Taoism Heritage

YUAN Zhihong(China Taoist Association,Beijing 100045,China)
Much more than a name of a city, Beijing is recognized as the symbol of national sovereignty and holiness. Taoism, which locally originated from, and developed a glorious civilization in China, has been spread widely and established well in Beijing for considerably long elapse of time, and still boast the most representative Taoist architecture in Beijing—"the White Cloud Temple". As an outstanding example of China cultural convention of one dominant system with diversified manifestation, the White Cloud Temple also saw damages to and loses of Beijing Taoist culture and relics during the upheavals in the past. Today, China achieves both political stability and economic development, consequently, more care and protection of the domestic Taoist heritage are expected from the government. Suggestion: A farreaching and indepth consideration over the topic of religion and systematic census of Beijing religious heritage, especially that of Taoism, are necessary. In the meantime, the municipal administration is expected to make proper arrangements such as increasing the number of registration and opening more venues for religious activities to keep up with the cutural needs for Taoism of the society.
