STUDIES ON THE CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF ACORNS OF SOME CHINESE OAKS (1) 14 DECIDUOUS SPECIES.

Oaks are common in China with a wide distribution, and acorns produced are in large quantities. Systematic chemical analyses of these acorns are lacking. Such information is necessary for their utilization and to some extent, may be useful in forest ecology or chemotaxonomy.In this paper chemical constituents of acorns of 14 deciduous Chinese oaks have been determined. Starch, tannins, lipids, proteins, soluble sugars, cellulose and ash are the common compounds to be dealt with. Some suggestions about the possible utilization of this Chinese acorn resource have been proposed.
